Denture Relines
A denture reline is a procedure used to permanently refit the inside of a denture to the current
shape of the gums and supporting tissue. Over time, the mouth naturally changes due to
healing, bone shrinkage, weight changes, or normal aging, which can cause dentures to
become loose or uncomfortable.
During the reline process, a new impression is taken inside the existing denture to accurately
capture the shape of the healed tissue. The laboratory then remakes the inside surface of the
denture based on this new impression while keeping the existing teeth and outer appearance of
the denture intact. Relines are usually done the same day but depend on scheduling.
Once the denture is returned from the laboratory, additional fine-tuning and adjustments are
usually performed to improve comfort and fit. A properly done reline can significantly improve
stability, retention, and overall function of the denture.
