Implant Overdentures
Implant overdentures are removable dentures designed to attach securely to dental implants
using specialized retentive attachments. Unlike traditional dentures that rely entirely on the
gums for support, overdentures are both implant-retained and tissue-supported. This means the
implants help hold the denture securely in place while the gums and underlying tissue continue
to provide additional support.
Overdentures are commonly supported by 2–4 implants depending on the patient’s anatomy,
treatment goals, and desired level of retention. This treatment is especially beneficial for lower
dentures, which are often the most difficult for patients to keep stable due to natural movement
of the tongue and limited gum support.
By securing the denture to implants, patients are often able to experience improved comfort,
chewing ability, confidence, and overall function. Although the denture is securely retained, it is
still removable by the patient for easy cleaning and maintenance. Different levels of retention
can also be selected depending on the patient’s needs and preferences.
Implant overdentures have been a trusted and proven treatment option for many years and are
often considered the next step for patients looking to improve the fit and stability of their
dentures.
